As previously mentioned, all puppies are eligible for AKC Registration and are sold with AKC Limited Registration. All puppies must carry the Skywatcher name at the beginning of their registered names. Registration can be made to AKC Full Registration once the animal passes OFA and CERF tests. What is AKC Limited Registration? Limited Registration means that the dog is registered, but no litters produced by that dog are eligible for registration. According to the AKC, “No offspring of a dog for which Limited Registration has been granted is eligible for registration. Each registration certificate for such dog shall carry notice of the limitation, and the limitation shall continue, regardless of any change of ownership, unless and until the owner(s) of the litter at birth shall apply to AKC for removal of the limitation.” Also, “A dog registered with an AKC Limited Registration shall be ineligible to be entered in a breed competition in a licensed or member show. It is eligible, however, to be entered in any other licensed or member event. These events include: Obedience, Tracking, Field Trials, Hunting Tests, Herding, Lure Coursing, Agility and Earthdog.” “Limited Registration is determined by the litter owner(s). Limited Registration can be changed to Full Registration only by the litter owner(s).” (Taken from the www.AKC.org website) |

The Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF) is an organization that was founded by a group of concerned, purebred owner/breeders who recognized that the quality of their dog's lives were being affected by heritable eye disease. CERF was then established in conjunction with cooperating, board certified, veterinary ophthalmologists, as a means to accomplish the goal of elimination of heritable eye disease in all purebred dogs by forming a centralized, national registry. The CERF Registry not only registers those dog's certified free of heritable eye disease by members of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (A.C.V.O. ), but also collects data on all dogs examined by A.C.V.O. Diplomates. This data is used to form the CERF data base which is useful in researching trends in eye disease and breed susceptibility. Not only is this data useful to clinicians and students of ophthalmology, but to interested breed clubs and individual breeders and owners of specific breeds.
